Cou Cou Returns to New York With Summer Shop Pop-up


Cou Cou is opening a New York summer pop-up as the London-based intimates brand continues to gain traction in the U.S.

The 1,600-square-foot shop, on Mott Street in NoLIta, opens Friday and will stock Cou Cou’s core assortment alongside early access to upcoming summer product, plus a New York-exclusive item. The space was designed by Kat Milne and will also display original John Kacere lithographs.

The store is Cou Cou’s second U.S. retail activation, following a pop-up in New York last summer that drew heavy traffic. This latest location is positioned as both a retail point and an events space, with programming that includes book exchanges, embroidery monogramming, bra fitting sessions, refreshment hours and a library curated by founder and creative director Rose Colcord.

Colcord framed the move as a way to deepen its relationship with existing customers rather than a sharp expansion play. “What people might call ‘explosive growth’ has actually felt very gradual and cumulative to me,” she said, adding that it reflects “years of care, refinement, instinct and trusting our vision before the wider culture necessarily caught up to it.”

New York made sense for the next retail step, she said, because it remains one of Cou Cou’s strongest markets. “New York is actually our biggest customer base,” Colcord said. “There’s always been such a strong connection between Cou Cou and New York girls so it felt very natural to deepen that.”

The shop’s layout is meant to feel more like a hangout than a standard retail install. Colcord said she wanted the space to feel “deeply intimate and welcoming amidst the pace of New York,” adding that she imagined it as somewhere a customer could visit with “friends, your sister, your daughter, your mum.”

The Rina, Cou Cou’s viral hero style, also gets a dedicated area in the store. Colcord said the piece was inspired by ballet-off-duty references and Jane Birkin, calling it a study in “undone, effortless femininity.” She also noted that the style took more than two years to finalize, underscoring the amount of work that went into keeping the design simple.

Looking ahead, Colcord said she hopes to build a more permanent retail presence and continue adding to what she called a full Cou Cou wardrobe. For now, the New York pop-up gives the brand a physical platform to sell, test and connect with customers in person — a strategy that reflects where the company says demand is already strongest.
